The season premieres with Rick, Morty, and Summer unfreezing time after a 6 month pause. Beth and Jerry are a little thrown off by the time skip, but accept Rick's generous bribe.
While in a fight started because Summer forgot to put the mattress under falling Mr. Benson, time splits in two. Rick is unable to fix it quickly, causing a 4th dimensional being to show up. It brings back together the time lines, but then attempts to take them in for theft of a time crystal. The trio breaks off the collars used to bring all of their time lines together and keep them captive and proceed to beat up the being. Unfortunately, to do this, they fragment time into 62 pieces. After fixing the collars, 185 of them are successfully put on, with one Morty not accomplishing it and falling into time. Rick jumps after him and puts his own collar onto Morty. Luckily, he finds the dropped collar and also returns to home in one piece.
On their way back from Cold Stone Creamery, Jerry hits a deer. They end up taking the injured buck back to the animal hospital where a hunter who had shot it shows up. He calls his lawyer to demonstrate that he legally owns the deer now. Officials from the Servine Institue for Elk, Moose, Deer, and Stag come to take the deer out of the lawyer's jurisdiction. To have them take the animal away, Beth must admit she could not perform surgery on it. Jerry then drives to a clearing, revealing that he had orchestrated the whole thing and the officials were actually Cold Stone Creamery employees. Beth saves the deer who scampers off into the arms of a Native America.

Rick sells an antimatter gun to Krombopulos Michael, a content assassin for 3,000Ӻ (Flurbos). Rick then takes Morty to Blips and Chitz where they play Roy. While Rick is playing, Morty takes the spacecraft to Krombopulos and ends up crashing into him. Krombopulos is killed right before he is able to kill his target, a prisoner who is a gaseous being that has telepathic abilities and is able to alter the composition of atoms. Gear Head (Revolio Clockberg Jr.) calls the cops on the trio, so they flee. Fart uses his telepathic abilities to help them escape (and kill hundreds of gear people in the process). They return Fart back to a portal to his dimension, but Morty is forced to kill him to save his dimension.
Jerry gets acquainted with the Jerry daycare. After meeting some Jerrys whose Mortys never came back for them, he leaves the daycare, only to return a short while later after being scared by the bizarre alien world. He gets picked up by one Rick (probably his) at the end of the day.

Rick, Morty, and Summer are out for a drive in the spaceship when they come across a distress beacon. When they go to check it out, Rick meets Unity, a collective (that can control billions of bodies) who is an ex of Rick. Rick parties with Unity while Summer and Morty explore the world she has unified. Summer tries to help the citizens regain consciousness. Unity parties too hard, and she loses control. Many of the citizens of the planet regain awareness and a race war starts. Luckily, Unity gains control right before Morty and Summer are killed. The duo storms off back to their dimension unable to convince Rick that his and Unity's relationship is destructive. After having some time to think, Unity breaks up with Rick, who then returns home wallowing in depression.
Jerry is searching for a weed whacker in the garage when he and Beth stumble across a hatch that leads into a facility beneath the garage. In there, they find an alien prisoner. The episode starts with the family and Uncle Steve sitting around the kitchen table. Rick notices something is wrong and shoots Steve in the head, revealing they have an alien parasite infestation on their hands. The 6 of them (Rick, Morty, Jerry, Beth, Mr. Poopybutthole, and Summer) quarantine the house and write 6 on the wall to remind them how many people are in the house. The parasites keep multiplying. First comes Cousin Nicky, then Mr. Boregard, Frankenstein's monster, Beth's husband, sleepy Gary, , a raptor photographer, Tinkles, Tinkles's friends, Hamurai, and an Amish cyborg. Countless more appear after Rick flashes back to a barbecue. Everyone turns on Rick. Morty and two parasites take him into the garage to kill. Morty ends up killing the parasites because he realized they were only capable of creating good memories. Knowing this, Rick, Morty, Beth, and Summer go on a killing spree. The episode starts with a gigantic orange head flying toward Earth, triggering natural disasters. It proclaims to the world that he wants to see what the people of Earth have got.
Rick and Morty travel to the Pentagon (on Earth). Rick informs the leaders there that the Head is a Cromulon from the Signus 5 Expanse and that he won't go away until Earth shows him they have a hit song. Because almost all of the famous musicians were killed in an Earthquake at the Grammys and Ice-T is too far away, Rick and Morty volunteer to perform a catchy, original song. The Head loves the hit, Get Schwifty, causing him to reverse the damage and fly away. Because Get Schwifty was so good, the Earth is transported by the Head people to appear on their music reality show, Planet Music: 5 planets enter, only 1 planet leaves. Ice-T arrives and the three of them plan to perform. Morty is freaking out and wants to gather his family in case they need to use the portal gun to escape. Rick tricks him into thinking the portal gun only has enough energy for one transport. The general doesn't believe in the trio, and instead wants to nuke the Heads. The President convinces him to stand down (for now). Rick, Ice-T, and Morty are hanging out when Rick uses his portal gun to grab some snacks. Discovering that Rick had lied, Morty steals the portal gun, and starts running, trying to find his family. He gets lost, but is luckily found by Bird Person. Back on Earth, Ice-T reveals his true form as a being from Alpha Betrium, from where he was frozen and banished. He then leaves Earth. The General knocks out the President and plans to fire the nukes one minute into Rick's performance. Morty shows up just as Rick's performance is getting underway. He unties the President and they fly to the stage. Rick is bombing and the Heads start to boo. Luckily, Morty shows up. Unfortunately, the General fires the nukes, causing no damage except for angering the Heads. They shoot the planet destroying beam at Earth, but Ice-T comes back and blocks it. Rick and Morty get to perform a new hit and are declared the final winner. It was so good that the Heads decided this season (the 988th one) would be the last. Earth is transported back, and everyone celebrates. The General tries to rush Rick, Morty, and the President with a gun, but Rick kills him.
Morty's teacher drives by and invites the family to come to the church and pray to the Head. At church, Principal Vagina challenges the priest and proposes everyone worships the Head. He goes outside and starts praising the Head. Eventually, the storms stop, and everybody rushes out of the church to where Principal Vagina is. Unaware of Rick and Morty's hit song, the townspeople attribute this miracle to Principal Vagina's prayers. He takes advantage of this, leading his new religion and pretending to be able to speak with the Heads. Summer is buying into this religion hard. This causes her to be completely obedient to her parents, but also a bit crazy. Priest Vagina wants to expand Headism and approaches Beth and Jerry with offers of their dreams. Seeing what the religion did to Summer, though, causes them to reject the offer. Unfortunately for them, the followers of Headism, including Summer, tie them to balloons and releases them to the heavens. As they do this, the Heads start booing (because of Rick's performance), so Summer saves them. Misinterpreting even more of the Head's words, the townspeople turn on Gene Vagina and release him into the sky. Eventually, they figure it out, and realize they were correlating a lot of things that weren't related.

The episode begins in another dimension with Rick, Morty, and Summer exiting The Ballfondlers Movie. About to embark on a trip to get the best ice cream in the multiverse, they find that the Microverse Battery isn't working properly. Rick and Morty enter the microverse in the battery, leaving Summer in the spaceship whom Rick gives orders to keep Summer safe.
Inside the battery, Rick explains how he created the universe and introduced electricity to the intelligent life that developed in it. They create the power using Gooble Boxes and Rick siphons some of it off the top to power his ship. Rick is graciously welcomed when he returns to the world, and they explain that their top scientist, Zeep Xanflorp (voiced by Stephen Colbert) has developed a new source of energy: a miniverse battery. Zeep takes them inside the miniverse where he has done the same thing as Rick except using the Flooble Crank instead of the Gooble Box. On that planet, they meet with their top scientist, Kyle, who gives them a tour of his teeniverse, where he plans to introduce the Blooble Yank to generate power. This tour makes Zeep realize that his universe was just made for battery power, resulting in him and Rick getting into a fight. Also realizing the situation and the unimportance of his life, Kyle flys his ship into a cliff, killing himself and leaving the three stranded. Rick and Zeep then enter into an arms race to create the technology to escape this teeniverse. Fed up with their bickering, Morty ventures into the wilderness. After months, Rick and Zeep are still fighting and stumble across Morty, who is now living among the tree people. Using them to threaten the two scientists, Morty convinces them to work together and create a machine that gets them back out into the miniverse. Back to betraying each other, they race to the transporter and all three are transported back to the microverse. Rick smashes the miniverse box, and they race to the transporter in that universe. Rick and Morty make it there first. Right before they are about to leave, Zeep shows up and Rick goes down to engage in fisticuffs. Rick hands him the beat down then returns to his universe. Knowing that Rick will destroy his universe if it isn't producing power, Zeep convinces his people to continue producing energy. Rick's battery is working again.
Right after Rick and Morty leave, a menacing man approaches the spaceship. The ship proceeds to slice him into tiny pieces and paralyze the man who goes to that pediatrician's aid. Law enforcement shows up, and the ship is about to kill them, but Summer insists that no one should be hurt. Following orders, the ship instead creates a replica of one of the officer's son who had just drowned. As the officer tearfully hugs the child, the son disintegrates in his arms. This trauma causes the police to leave the vehicle alone. They call for reinforcements, and soon the ship is surrounded by an army. Because of the many restrictions put on it by Summer, the ship is forced to broker a peace agreement between the giant spiders and the government. Because of this excellent diplomacy, they leave the ship alone.
Rick don joins in on some hijinks in this one broh. Beth and Jerry sort out their relationship too broh.

The episode begins with the family around the breakfast table. Morty relates a story of how one of the lunch ladies had been found apparently killed by a vampire. Summer comes up with the dumb idea of having Rick turn into a teenage version of himself and go to school with them to hunt down the vampire. After that, Beth and Jerry get into one of their classic quarrels. Fed up with this, Rick whisks them off to couples counselor with a 100% success rate.
Rick drops the couple off at Nuptia 4, the galaxy's most successful couple's counseling institute for a two day intensive retreat. They are promptly greeted by Glexo Slim Slom, the therapist. He first hooks up Jerry to a machine that uses his perceptions of Beth to create a biological being, called a mythologue. The end result is a terrifying scorpion-like creature. It's now Beth's turn and her creation is a pathetic slug-like creature. Beth and Jerry are then guided with a few other couples to cages where their mythologues are kept. For the first few couples, their mythologues are put into contact and proceed to tear each other to shreds. In the cage housing Beth and Jerry's mythologues, though, they have begun to work together. The Beth mythologue uses the Jerry mythologue to camouflage herself. Trying to find them, a guard enters the cage, and is promptly killed by the Beth mythologue. They escape and leave a trail of bodies in their wake. Glexo, Jerry, and Beth are able to escape. Temporarily safe, Glexo goes off on a tirade about the couple's terrible relationship that caused this tragedy. They continue to run for their lives, and luckily find a ship about to leave. There is only room for one more, and using some trickery, Glexo is able to get aboard leaving Beth and Jerry to fend for themselves. Soon thereafter, Beth is grabbed by the Beth mythologue and Jerry is chased down by the Jerry mythologue. Jerry is chased into a dead end where he is forced to confront his mythologue, who instantly submits, offering his booty to Jerry. Seeing this snaps Jerry into action who is now determined to help his wife, who is now being restrained in a chair by the Beth mythologue who is forcing her to create an army of Jerry mythologues. Jerry enters and begins firing a gun at the army of Jerry. Soon enough, the mythologues coming out of the machine aren't pathetic slugs, but muscular, heroic Jerrys. They continue to do battle and the Beth mythologue starts to charge the couple. Thinking quickly, Jerry puts the machine onto the head of one of the heroic Jerrys, who creates a goddess-like Beth mythologue. This one destroys the old Beth mythologue and frees Beth. Beth and Jerry make up and loving agree to keep this marriage going until at least Morty graduates high school. They're picked up from the institute and fly home with Rick.
Rick shows up at Morty and Summer's school as Tiny Rick! Now inside a teenage body, Rick plans to help them catch the vampire. He introduces himself to Toby Mathew, Summer's crush. By the end of the day, the trio has killed the vampire Coach Feratu. Back at home, Tiny Rick is about to transfer his consciousness back into his old body when Summer receives a text from Toby asking if she's going to throw a party since her parents are out of town. He also asks if Tiny Rick will be there. To help her out, Rick decides to remain as Tiny Rick. They throw an awesome party. Tiny Rick pulls out his guitar and plays a rather troubling song for the crowd begging for help, which is met with praise and applause. The next day at school, Mr. Goldenfold gives the class the day off because Tiny Rick threw such an amazing party. Summer tries to convince Tiny Rick to return to his original body because she sees his inner unhappiness, but she is shut down by him and Morty. That night the three of them go to the school dance. Tiny Rick debuts his new dance, Let Me Out, which is again met with cheers by the crowd. Morty begins to realize something bad is going on, but is distracted by Jessica asking him to slow dance. As they dance, Rick is pulled out into the hall by Principal Vagina, who expels him because they found a bag of bloody stakes in his locker that tie him to the murder of the gym teacher. Tiny Rick goes back into the dance to confront Summer for ratting him out and tells everyone that she is a narc. This causes everyone to turn against her; they boo her until she leaves crying. Back at home, Tiny Rick is about to break open the vat holding his old body and smash it to pieces, but is stopped by Summer and Morty. They restrain him and force him to listen to Elliot Smith. The music makes him realize the futility of life and is brought back to his senses. He instructs his grandchildren how to hook him up to the machine and transport his consciousness back into his old body. Rick thanks his grandchildren (mostly Summer) and decides that Operation Phoenix (seemingly a plan to create multiple clones of himself) is a failure, leading him to beat all of the clones into a bloody pulp. After that blood bath, Rick goes to pick up Beth and Jerry.

Jerry is rushed into an alien emergency room with his family by his side. In bed, he is leaking green ooze from his eyes and throwing up violently all because he ingested some mutant bacteria Rick was keeping in a pint of mutant bacteria. Doctor Glip Glop, one of the best in the galaxy steps in to help, but is promptly covered by Jerry's vomit, the effects of which send him into a murderous rage and stain his clothes. Luckily Rick kills him before he can attack anyone. Rick, Morty, and Summer go into the waiting room while Beth stays with Jerry. Rick installs an interdimensional cable box in the lobby, and the trio get down to watching some television. These include "Man vs. Car" (where a wrestler and a car fight to the death), a commercial for the breakfast cereal Eyeholes, the gameshow "How Did I Get Here?", a trailer for Jan Quadrant Vincent 16, "The Adventures of Stealy" (a show that follows around a guy that steals things), "Funny Songs", a live, fully improvised musical program, a commercial for Lil Bits, a restaurant that serves miniaturized food, the "Opposite News with Michael Thompson", "Cooking Things with Pichael Thompson", an episode of "How They Do It..." on Plumbusses, the "Personal Space Show" with Phillips Jacobs, an alien sporting event similar to the long jump, a show about Octopus Man, a marine biologist that was bitten by an octopus who now "helps" people, and a commercial for a Butthole Ice Cream parlor. While this is going on, Jerry is being treated by the doctors. They cure him, but much to his chagrin, they ask for his genitals. His penis and testicles are remarkably similar to the heart of Shrimply Pibbles, the galaxy's most influential civil rights leader. If Jerry gives up his genitals he can save this brilliant man on the brink of death. Wanting to please, he agrees. Once the procedure is getting underway, Jerry has some second thoughts. Looking for an excuse, he tells the doctor that he must first consult with his wife. At first Beth is staunchly against the idea, but after taking a few moments to browse the catalog of prosthetics, graciously decides to reconsider. Neither Beth nor Jerry want to stand in the way of saving Shrimply, so Jerry is escorted into a private room to use his penis one last time. While browsing the computer left for him to use, he stumbles upon Mr. Pibbles patient file and discovers that he has a heroin dependency. Jerry reveals this information at the press conference to introduce him to the universe, but is informed by a reporter that because Shrimply Pibbles's home planet has an atmosphere that is 10% heroin, he must take it to survive. The crowd turns on him once they realize he's trying to get out of giving up his penis. Amid the jeering, one of the alien representative has an announcement: beings across the universe had donated enough money to create an synthetic heart for Shrimply Pibbles. Angry that everybody now hates him, Jerry storms the operating room where they are working on Mr. Pibbles armed with a penis prosthetic that looks very similar to a gun, demanding they use his penis to save Shrimply. Soon enough, two guards rush in with their guns cocked, loaded, and pointed for Jerry. They tell him to put down the weapon and step away from Mr. Pibbles, but Jerry pulls down his pants and tries to make a break for Shrimply's open chest cavity. He is shot 57 times and falls to the floor in a crumpled mess. Luckily, because of the advanced medical technology, Jerry survives, and the family goes back home.

The episode kicks off with Jerry giving an insightful reflection on the proper way to eat cereal. The family's breakfast is interrupted when a courier flab flies into the house to deliver an eggvite for Birdperson and Tammy's mate melding ceremony on Planet Squanch. The courier flab takes Jerry and carries him off to the ceremony, so the family is forced to follow. They arrive, and Jerry is deposited in a slimy mess shortly thereafter. The family goes in and starts to socialize. Rick is bitter and unsupportive, Morty is trying to change his sour attitude, Beth is dealing with her own feelings of abandonment, Jerry is trying desperately to fit in and network, and Summer is having a grand old time chatting with Tammy. In a conversation (or more accurately two simultaneous monologues) with Beth, Birdperson reveals that 17 of the Federation's most wanted are in attendance. The ceremony takes place, and the reception begins! Rick gives a "heartwarming" toast. Tammy follows it up by revealing that she is a deep cover agent for the Galactic Federation and the building is surrounded. She murders Birdperson and a firefight breaks out resulting in many casualties. The family escapes on a space vehicle. Because Earth is now swarming with Galactic Federation agents, they look for a new home, outside of their jurisdiction. They visit three planets, one very small one, one in which everything is on the cob, and one in which there is a screaming sun. After choosing to live on the tiny planet, the family sits down to watch some television. On the news, they are announcing that Earth has officially become the 6,048th planet to join the Galactic Federation. Rick goes to discover the South Pole, and while he is gone the family discusses the predicament they are in. Jerry wants to turn in Rick so they can have some semblance of their lives back, but the rest of the family is sticking with Rick. Unbeknownst to them, Rick had found an ice cave and crawled to the center of the planet which happened to be directly under their house and had heard their entire conversation. Rick decides he must leave. On his way out, he says goodbye to Morty, who confronts him telling him that he will never forgive Rick for the emotional pain he will cause Beth by leaving. On his way to a tavern for his last drink as a free man, Rick turns himself in while ensuring the safety of his family. The Galactic Federation arrests him at the tavern. The family is picked up by the Federation and returned to Earth, which has turned into an intragalactic tourist trap. The season ends with Rick being locked away in prison.
