"Be a good person, and do what's right." -My mom's mantra

There are a few social norms that have shaped my life, and they've all been incredibly positive. One is that it's important to be a good person. My mom drilled this into my head constantly growing up, and it's something that I've tried to live by. I try to be thoughtful and kind, even if it's difficult at times.

Social norms are fundamental to establishing and maintaining social order. Although norms vary from culture to culture and time to time, there are a few common ones that have shaped my life. The first social norm that has shaped my life is respecting authority. Whether it be parental, educational, or societal authority, this norm has been reinforced in my life since I was a child. Being taught how to respect those in positions of authority, has helped me learn how to properly interact with others and how to handle difficult situations in an appropriate manner. The second social norm that has shaped my life is following the law and norms of society. I was taught from a young age to not only abide by the law but to also respect the values of the community in which I live. Through this, I have been able to understand how to handle various situations properly, professionally and with respect. For example, I know that honking your car horn in a residential area at midnight is not acceptable. The last social norm that has shaped my life is being courteous and polite. This norm is especially important to me because it can help create a sense of connection and trust when interacting with people. Throughout my life, I have always had a strong sense of respect for others and this has been deeply ingrained in me by my family, upbringing and education. By treating everyone with politeness, regardless of whether or not they are someone I know, I have been able to make friends, build relationships, and develop a strong social circle. These three social norms are key foundations of how I interact with people and the world around me. They have helped form my moral compass, while also teaching me how to navigate difficult situations with grace. Through these three norms, I have been able to become a better version of myself and continue to adhere to them in order to maintain a respectful and courteous lifestyle.
