Ask AI: Will AI take over

AI has great potential and it's being incorporated into countless aspects of life and work. However, whether it'll "take over" isn't a simple question. AI is a tool created and governed by humans. Its current capabilities are focused on specific tasks (narrow AI). Despite recent advances, we're still quite far from creating an AI that possesses a general intelligence on par with or superior to human intelligence (AGI). While some experts predict that AGI may be developed in the future, will it "take over" or not, largely depends on how we as a society regulate, manage, and decide to use it. As such, it's crucial to have conversations and regulations about AI ethics, fairness, and safety. In the short term, it's important to focus on using AI responsibly to augment human abilities and address pressing challenges, while considering possible displacement effects in jobs and developing strategies to mitigate these.
