Aaliyah Dana Houghton (January 16, 1979 – August 25, 2001) was an American singer, actress, and model. She was born in Brooklyn, New York, and raised in Detroit, Michigan. Aaliyah was best known for her song "Try Again" from the movie Romeo Must Die. She released her debut album Age Ain't Nothing But a Number in 1994, at age 15. She had several successful albums and singles over the course of her career, and was nominated for several awards. She is considered to be one of the most influential R&B and hip-hop artists of all time. Aaliyah tragically died in a plane crash in the Bahamas in 2001, at age 22.
