Comrades and Brothers! I stand before you this evening as one who, in his lifetime, has borne witness to the ceaseless struggle between capital and labour. I have seen much in my life and have lived to witness the death throes of an era we all thought was finished, yet still the same struggles continue. This struggle is nothing new. It has been ongoing since time immemorial, and never have its forces been so concentrated and its power so immense as today. Progress, to be sure, has been made in some areas, but the overall situation is one of increasing exploitation of the working classes and a widening gap between the rich and the poor. Our mission must be to resist these forces and to achieve a more equitable distribution of wealth, an end to impoverishment, and a life of dignity for all. We must take up this cause, and make sure that our children and their children never again suffer the indignities that so many of our ancestors have endured. The future belongs to us, and it is our duty to ensure it is a future of peace, justice and prosperity. We must not waver from this path, and remember that together, we can achieve anything.
