Emily’s eyes widened in horror as she glanced at her phone and saw the date. She’d promised her boyfriend, Josh, that they’d spend the day at the beach together, a plan they'd been eagerly looking forward to. His shaggy hair was quickly braided into two short, messy braids, and she applied a light layer of mascara and lip gloss. Despite being six inches taller than Emily, their resemblance, especially with the sunglasses shield, was passable. Sam glanced at his reflection in the mirror and sighed. “This better work,” he muttered. Emily’s phone buzzed, indicating a message from Josh. She grabbed a pair of her sandals and hurriedly shoved them onto her brother’s feet, dragging him downstairs. “Just act natural. Don’t talk much,” she reminded as she pushed him out the door. Through the window, Emily’s heart raced as she watched her boyfriend hug and kiss Sam. It seemed her desperate ploy was working. The hours trickled by as Emily diligently assisted her mother with preparations. Once all tasks were completed, she retreated to her room, anxiously awaiting her brother's return. The sound of tires on gravel reached her ears, signaling Josh's arrival back with her 'double'. She watched nervously as Josh kissed Sam goodbye. Her brother waved cheerfully, then hurried inside.
