Question: Make this 400-500 words: My name is Edward Varner, I use He/him pronouns. I am from Spencer, in Roane County West Virginia. I'm planning on studying Mechanical Engineering. I suppose that something interesting about me is that I'm deaf in my left ear or that I'm an Eagle Scout. Although social norms vary from culture to culture and time to time, there are a few common ones that have shaped my life. The first social norm that affects me is the expectation that families should be loving and kind to one another. My past experiences with my own family disprove this, as my family did the opposite. These experiences have had a strong impact on the way I interact with my others, and how I strive to be understanding and respectful of other people's feelings. The second social norm that has shaped my life is that children will be like their parents. This dorm has affected my life constantly, as my parents were drug users who would often abandon me, because of this people would assume I was just as bad as them, that I would just be a troublemaker. Throughout my early years at school I had to study hard just to disprove people's ideas about me. The last social norm is that men aren't supposed to be weak. This norm is especially important to me because it made it difficult for me to explain my experiences to others. They often criticized me when I would explain what my home life was like. They often would just claim that I'm strong enough to prevent it, or I'm just wanting attention. It took a long time for me to find anyone who would listen to what I had to say, and even then it was after I left home.
