Question: Write me a story about 12 year old Bradley arguing with his 55 year old aunt Marianne about whether or not he was mature or understood basic things about life. "You are still so young my sweet summer child. You would never last a day in my shoes" Marianne said. Bradley replied "Bet I would" "Oh hon, it was a different time back then. If you do get to see the world as me, I hope you have fun" Marianne replied. Bradley responded "I'd love to grow up back then. Bring it on. As myself? That'd be amazing" Suddenly, Bradley's vision got blurry and he got dizzy. The world around him slowly getting darker until it was gone. Bradley then heard the sounds of children laughing. Much louder than he had ever heard before. Bradley noticed he was shorter, much shorter. He looked down and his eyes bulged out of his head. He was wearing a pink dress with overalls attached to it and a white shirt underneath as well as some black Mary Janes. Bradley knew some stuff about the history of fashion and this was unlike anything anyone in was wearing in 2023. This looked more like 1970s clothing. As he walked worriedly, a group of girls called out to him. "Hey Marianne, you wanna play hopscotch or jump rope?" Bradley's heart sunk in his chest, he was living as his mom when she was a child. Walking over to them, he asked "How old am I again?" shocked at hearing his mom's voice as a little girl. One of the girls replied "Oh this is a fun game. You are 7 years old" Bradley told them he would be right back and ran all the way to his grandparent's house and looked in the mirror. Seeing his new reflection was crazy, even his hair was styled like the 70s. "Hey Marianne, are you okay honey?" Bradley's grandma but Marianne's mom asked him. "I am fine. Just using the bathroom. I really had to go" Bradley's grandma then walked up and said "You got a lot on your mind hon? I know how to relax you back to normal" she then grabbed Bradley by his head and rubbed gently. Bradley suddenly felt his memories changing until he only remembered himself as Marianne. His thoughts changing mid-sentence. "But wait, I'm not M, I'm not--- But mommy, I'm not ready for bed yet. I wanna play some more." the new Marianne said now with a goofy smile on her face. Marianne's mom looked at her and smiled saying "That's good dear. Have fun" Marianne then ran back to her friends to play hopscotch with them. She wondered why she even ran home in the first place but shrugged it off and got back to hopping not having any memory of who she used to be.
Meanwhile, back in the future, the real Aunt Marianne was baffled as she looked around for her missing nephew. One moment he was there, arguing with her about the good old days, and the next minute he was gone. "You were always a spirited one, Bradley," she chuckled to herself and shook her head slightly, "since the moment you learned how to talk back." Marianne wasn’t scared or terrified about her nephew's disappearance but she was worried. She knew that Bradley was smart for his age and very determined, always eager to prove something to those around him whenever he felt underestimated. Meanwhile in the past, little Marianne was hopping and laughing with her friends. Being young was fun but so taxing, she could play all day and still have lots of energy to spare. It wasn't long before they were all tired out and as evening came, Marianne's mom called her, "Dinner’s ready, dear!” Marianne kissed her mom's cheek and went to wash her hands, the joyous sound of her laughter filling the house. As she set at the table she noticed that she was a little taller and her clothes, they were completely different. She was wearing a blue t-shirt labeled 'Monster Inc.' and as she looked around, the setting was not familiar at all. The living room style was different, there were gadgets she didn’t recognize and outside, cars were not like she remembered. Dread and confusion creeping into her thoughts, Marianne turned to look at the mirror, she was taller and older than she remembered. She was confused and shocked. “Bradley” Marianne murmured to herself. She ran her fingers through her hair nodding, “I’m Bradley…” Back again in the future, Aunt Marianne held her temples and squinted her eyes. “This headache…” she mumbled. Reminiscing about her own past, she smiled at the memory of her playing around so freely without any of life's burdens. For a split second, she thought about how wonderful it would be to go back to those times, "If only I could be a child again." Then it clicked: She had just willingly propelled Bradley back in time to live her life. Knowing Bradley, she figured he was not going to be content with just observing. He would throw himself into her past, live it to the fullest. She shook her head and smiled. "Well, Bradley," she said to herself, "I hope you're having the time of your life." And Bradley did indeed enjoy his time, he got to see things from his aunt's perspective and respect her experience more. He finally understood what she meant about different times and difficulties. By the time he was back to his normal self, he had a newfound appreciation for his aunt's advice and lessons in life he previously underestimated. From then on, their bond grew stronger and Bradley matured far beyond his twelve years of age.
