Our story begins with Ethan, a six-year-old boy from the rural town of Shreveport, Louisiana. Known for his wavy brown hair, captivating green eyes, and a slight southern drawl that charmed his kindergarten teachers. He loved superheroes and donned his Batman pajamas, as he headed for bed. The next morning, Ethan woke to the sound of a loud television and a man snoozing beside him. He looked around, disoriented, now not in his small room, but a big-city apartment, unfamiliar to his country-leaning sensibilities. Ethan found himself in New Jersey. Mirrors revealed a reflection of a woman named Samantha, whose driver's license stated her age to be 27. Her medium length black hair neatly tugged behind, the dark eyeliner made her brown eyes pop against her fair skin. Samantha's style was punk rock; her outfit featured a black leather jacket over a purple sundress, she'd fallen asleep in. The dress was matched with a pair of black platform sandals which were at her feet. Ethan found himself mesmerized by the intricate tattoos adorning her arms; fantasy creatures like dragons and unicorns. Upon looking down, Ethan noticed his hands were older, not his small, six-year-old hands but mature hands of the woman, Samantha; to his surprise, he also noticed that he was now older than his 16-year-old sister, Lily. Ethan tried to stand up, the platform sandals nearly toppled him, "Ed, how do you always find these shoes so sassy?" he blurted towards the man who was Samantha's boyfriend. His voice, different, as if it was Samantha's, posed a rhetorical and unintentional commentary. He continued, remarking about Ed's outgrown facial hair, "Ed, your beard tickles, hard to sleep, you know?" Moreover, he found himself commenting on his new outfit, "Purple is indeed my power color." He touched Samantha's face, feeling the after-effects of some kind of makeup, "It is good I washed my face before bed, hate sleeping with makeup on." He looked over Samantha's tattoos, "I love how the color on this dragon tattoo has held up so well." Samantha had a dangling owl necklace on, which Ethan found himself rolling between the newly polished and extended fingernails, pink with tiny white dots, "Ed, don't you love how this owl pendant matches so well with my outfit?" Ethan's thoughts found their way back to his family. "How do I get back to them?" he wondered out loud. Yet, deep down he knew something was altered permanently. His longing for the comforting walls of his home in Shreveport was very pronounced, just like the Batman logo on his favorite pair of pajamas.
