Samuel tries to pull his now longer hair out of the bun. 121. Tears stream down his face as he cries. 122. He bends down, trying to scrape off the nail polish from his toes. 123. The flip flops only get in his way. 124. Memories of his past begin to fade. 125. Only Maria's memories remain. 126. Maria stands up and looks around. 127. "No, high heels hurt, but pretty." 174. "Makeup es wonderful." 175. "Cookin' es my joy." 176. Sarah’s heart sinks as she realizes her son is truly gone. 177. "I like your outfit and jewelry," she compliments. 178. "Tank you," Maria replies happily. 179. She then easily sticks out her feet. 180. "Do you like my pedicure?" 181. "Your grandma Diane, she’s 52," Sarah tries. 182. "Que? I eigh' years older. Diane, she's 52, I is 60,” Maria says confidently. 183. "I oldest in my Mex'can family, my husband pass," she adds. 184. She smiles, "Now I oldest in your family too, Sarah." 185. Maria goes over to the fridge. 186. "Why no Mex’can dishes? Where de Corona, Tecate, de heavy liq'or?" 187. Maria leaves, intending to buy Mexican groceries and alcohol. 188. She arrives at the store, grabbing ingredients. 189. She asks for Mexican alcohol brands, pronouncing them perfectly. 190. "May I see your ID?" the female cashier asks. 191. "Que?" Maria replies in confusion, adjusting her sunglasses. 192. "I need to see your ID," the cashier repeats. 193. "!AY!" Maria exclaims, frustrated. 194. "I born in 1962, I 60 years old, I been to Mex'co, seen great many things." 195. "I have five chil'ren, I cook everyday, Maria Rodriguez is old." 196. "It's store policy. Everyone needs ID," the cashier replies. 197. "You have five children?" the cashier clarifies. 198. "You cook everyday?" 199. "How long have you had your wedding ring?" 200. "How often do you visit Mexico?" 201. The cashier eventually caves and lets Maria buy without ID. 202. Maria gets home and grabs her groceries and purse. 203. She brings everything inside, putting it all away. 204. She walks to a nearby mirror. 205. "Maria, you're old now. But you still got it, beautiful as ever," she says, looking at her wedding ring, starting to cry. 206. Maria dozes off in an armchair. 207. Later that night, she wakes up disoriented. 208. "Que?" she scolds herself. 209. "Stupid, Maria, no sleep here in dees outfit.” 210. She goes to bed, dreaming of her younger days. 211. She dreams of being 20, wearing a traditional Mexican dress. 212. The next day, Maria chooses a more traditional Mexican dress. 213. She adds some other jewelry she owns. 214. Maria slips on a different pair of flip flops. 215. She sternly walks to the mirror. 216. "Maria," she says quietly, admiring herself. 217. “Isabella!” she suddenly thinks. 218. "Isabella, ven aca!" Maria yells, adding something in Spanish.
